Believe It Or Not, Your Grades Matter in College

College is a great time for you to break out of your shell, and many people do. However, many of these people who were once quiet and cared about their education turn to drinking and partying and forget the main point of going to college. You are going to college to get an education. You want to make something of yourself and earn a degree. College is expensive and whether you believe it or not, your grades really do matter. College isn’t like high school where you can just slack off. You have to work for the grades you get. So why are these grades so very important? Here’s your answer.

Grades Do Matter

When you are in high school, you are working and earning your grades for twelve or more years so that you can walk across the stage and get your diploma. However, if you can’t make it through high school, you can opt to earn a GED. When you earn a GED, the grades you received don’t much matter anymore. When you are in college, you are working to earn a degree. There is no program for a GED in college. You either make the grades and earn the degree or you don’t earn the degree at all. It is as simple as that. Many people think that they do not have to put much effort into their studies and college and still think they can get by the same as they did when they were in high school but that is not the case. You have to work for the grade you deserve and earn it.

Dean’s List

Another thing when it comes to college is that you can make Dean’s list. This is like honor roll in college and those students who excel in their studies and consistently earn high grades will be on this list. Just like in high school, you will get a grade point average and this is extremely important. You want to maintain a high GPA for many reasons. Having a high GPA will make it far easier for you to transfer to a different college or university in the future. This GPA will go on your transcript as well. If you fall below the required GPA, you may even be academically dismissed from your college or university and you do not want that!

You should have fun in college. No one is saying that you shouldn’t. But you always need to remember why you are really there. College is not the excuse to go away from home and party like a rockstar. College is the time for you to get the grades to determine your future. College is the time for you to earn the degree that will give you a career. You need to make sure that you are keeping your grades up to par and getting the education that you paid so much for. Your education should always come first, as should the grades you earn!
