Children spend most of their time in the school. They develop their social and cultural self in the school. They are friendly to all all and hostile to some. It is here that they come to have some conflicts either with their class-fellows or some seniors. It is under these situations that our children grow up. Hence the teacher and the school have a very important role to play in warding off the mental conflicts of children.

Suggestions to the Teacher:

  • The atmosphere in the  school should be healthy, cooperative and friendly. Let the children feel secure in such a type of atmosphere. They should have the liberty to discuss their problems with their class-fellows, seniors and teachers. This will go a long way in saving the mental strain of children and thus avoiding mental conflicts.
  • The relation between the children and their teachers should be frank, friendly and cordial. The teacher has to keep in view that he is just like the elder brother of the child. The child should have a due regard for the teacher. They should frankly bring their problems before the teachers and seek their guidance in solving them. This can be achieved only when they atmosphere in the class in informal and humane.
  • The atmosphere in the school should be guided by principles of democracy in administration. It is these democratic principles which will change the entire color of the school and would enable children to realize their best self.
  • The teacher should have a good grounding in principles of psychology and mental mechanism. These would enable the teacher to properly guide the child and avoid mental conflicts.
  • The teacher should understand and appreciate the theory of individual differences among children. Two children are not alike. They require individual methods and individual approach in teaching. In the same way they require and individual approach in solving their mental conflicts. The teacher, if he observes that a particular child is showing abnormal behavior, he should make a psychological approach to his problems. He should find out the cause of the problems and use a suitable mental mechanism.
